Van Driver
JOB TITLE: Van Driver (Part-time)
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
SUPERVISES: N/A
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold valid Maine drivers’ license and have a clean driving record according to our insurance carrier’s guidelines.
- Demonstrate English reading and writing skills.
- Ability to complete training in location of routes.
- Implement student discipline in accordance with District policies.
- No previous experience as a van driver required.
- Meet District drug testing guidelines.
NATURE OF WORK:
To provide safe and efficient transportation so students may participate to the fullest possible advantage in district curriculum and extra-curriculum programs with no problems related to transportation interrupting educational programs.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Operating up to an 11-passenger van.
- Must work appropriately with all age groups.
- Must have ability to react quickly and appropriately to hazardous situations involving student safety and stay calm in an emergency.
- Must be capable of physically assisting students from the van when necessary which may include students who use wheel chairs or other adaptive equipment.
- Must be able to drive in adverse conditions, including icy roads, snowstorms and darkness if applicable.
- Will be exposed to cleaning solutions and insects.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Obey all traffic laws.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses and vans.
- Maintains consistent discipline when students are on the van and promptly reports incidents of student misconduct to the building principal or the transportation director if the principal is unavailable.
- Develop rapport with students and parents.
- Keeps assigned van clean.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Van Driver
- Keeps assigned schedule and makes no change without permission of the transportation director.
- Checks van before and after each operation for mechanical difficulties.
- Notifies the mechanic in case of mechanical failure.
- Picks up and discharges students at authorized stops.
- Exercises responsible leadership at all times and specifically attends to this when on out-of-district school trips.
- Transports only authorized students who are assigned by the transportation director or director of special services.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Administers first aid commensurate with experience and training.
- Performs such other duties as shall be reasonable requested by the transportation director.
- Maintains mileage log per specification from transportation director.
